I really want a betta fish, but they wouldn't get along.help?

i really REALLY want one. but from what i have heard they do not get along good at all. he would eat my tetra, danios ,and goldfish in one gulp wouldn't he? and i don't have another tank. i do have another bowl, but i know its cruel to keep fish in them. what can i do?
