BRAIN TEASER....this is part of my math homework and i need the e.c! :D?

ok so if you have toothpicks lined up like this: l+ll+lll and you could move only one how does it equal 4??? the plus signs are also toothpicks and they can not be broken!!??! how do you do it??! :)
